How to Build Strong Foundations in Warrior II Pose

Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) is a powerful standing posture that builds strength in the legs, opens the hips, and improves concentration.

The Base: Foot Placement

Set your feet wide apart, about one leg-length. Align your front heel with the arch of your back foot. Turn your front toes straight forward and back toes in slightly. Press firmly into all corners of both feet.

The Core: Hip and Knee Alignment

Bend your front knee so it sits directly over your ankle. Keep the knee tracking toward your pinky toe rather than collapsing inward. Press through the outer edge of your back foot to engage your back thigh.

The Crown: Torso and Arms

Keep your shoulders stacked directly over your hips. Reach your arms out parallel to the floor, actively extending through your fingertips. Soften your shoulders away from your ears and gaze over your front hand.
